Barkerville is a national historic site east of Quesnel, BC (approximately 8 hours north of Vancouver).
Barkerville was a gold rush town after gold was found at this location in 1861. It had a vibrant Chinese community and had a sizable Chinatown. Barkerville burned down in 1868 but was quickly rebuilt.
After the gold rush, Barkerville became a ghost town. In 1958, the provincial government decided to rebuild Barkerville as a tourist attraction.
