[edit] Where to test it

The alpha test version is installed in a testing environment separated from the productive wikis. There are clones of our de:, it: and shared wikis in the state as at begining of September 2008. Additionaly, there is a pseudo wiki as maintenance interface for the location DB. All locations that could be extracted from the three content wikis have been imported into the location DB as test data set. Due to the huge memory requirements, many images on shared: are missing, but this should not affect the way the location DB works.

All users that have done more than 10 contributions on de: or it: during the last 10 weeks have the sysop flag toggled on. If you want to see the locDB as normal user, just make a new account. This does not affect the user accounts for the productive wikis.

You will find the testing wikis on

In order to lock out web crawlers that ignore robots.txt, there is an authorisation required for the testing environment. The user name is "tester" and the password is "test".

[edit] What to test

You will find a user tutorial for the location DB linked from the locDB wiki's main page. Everything should work as described there. If not, you have found a bug. The most important for the developers is the maintenance side, not the application side. You are welcome to check out the new faetures on the testing de:, it: and shared:, but it would be more important to test if the maintenance part, i.e. the locDB pseudo wiki, works as it should.

Please check it intensively, do as many usefull and even useless operations, try several browsers, if possible, try to work logged in an not logged in, work as sysop and as normal user etc.

[edit] How to report a bug

Please report all bugs on the bug report page. Before you report a new bug, check the list of known bugs.

[edit] Proposals for improvement

If you find that some parts of the maintenance interface could be improved by adding or modifying something, make a proposal on the page for proposals.
