This article describes our project.

Welcome to Wikivoyage! We, the Wikivoyagers hope that you like results of our work and that you join us to reach a common goal of making a free, up-to-date, complete and reliable world-wide travel guide.

You probably already know our user interface from Wikipedia or Wikitravel. Then you should read Welcome, Wikipedians or Welcome, Wikitravellers respectively. There are listed some obvious but significant differences from Wikipedia and from Wikitravel as well.

An introduction is placed in the Roadmap of Wikivoyage. Unless you have some previous experience with Wiki, you should read it (before you read all the rest too;-))

[edit] Find information

To find information you're looking for, go to the Main Page and scan through the categories listed there.

You can search Wikivoyage using the Search box on your screen. Just type in the name of the subject you're looking for, and you'll get a list of articles. Further details are described in Search. If no pages mention it, it means we might need a new article on it... and you might be the one to write it!

You can use the content of articles in Wikivoyage in almost any way, free of charge, thanks to our copyleft license.

[edit] Share your knowledge

All Wikivoyage web sites are created by readers; all the information you see in our guides was contributed by Internet users like you. We're trying to create the travel guide for the entire world, and we need your help. It's a giant job. As they say, though, “Together we are strong”. Anything you can do to contribute is appreciated. You don't have to be a travel "expert", you just need to be interested enough to get started.

You're always welcome to set off and make changes to any page on the site (this one too). Just click the Edit this page link, and you'll get a form that lets you change the content of the page. Click Save page. Now your version is what's shown on the site. (If you're nervous, feel free to practice in the playground).

If you are enjoying Wiki-sysytem, you may want to read our tips for new contributors. Our list of goals and non-goals gives a good idea of what we're intending to do with Wikivoyage. If you've got some specific information you want to share, we have some guidelines on where what should go. You can also read our manual of style for more clues allowing to create a perfect guide. There are also other ways to help Wikivoyage, too. If you have special skills or interests, consider joining a related expedition.

[edit] More information

We have prepared more help documentation to make reading and editing Wikivoyage as easy as possible.

If you have any questions to Wikivoyage, please read our FAQ first. In most cases your question has been already answered there. If not, feel free to use talk page for the article or ask your more general question in the Lounge where friendly Wikivoyagers will help you to find way.

We can't say how important it is to us that you are reading and contributing on Wikivoyage. If you need anything, just ask us (however you can). We want you to enjoy Wikivoyage, to find the information you are looking for, and (hopefully) to be attracted strong enough to share your knowledge with others.
