[edit] Hilfe bei einer englischen Version
Hallo,
guck dir mal bitte meinen post hier [1] an.
-- Hansm 13:25, 30 January 2007 (CET)

[edit] Travature
Hello Hansm, I tried to respond to your email you sent, but it got bounced, so maybe its better here anyways. The text of my response is below:
- Hi, thanks for the note.
- I've sort of watched from the sidelines the interesting interaction thats gone on between WT and WV. It certainly seems (from an outsiders perspective) like the open ended questions of what IBs intentions are for WT were pretty valid.
- I also spent a bit of time reading the ForkFAQ and the Commercialization page you guys have written on Wikivoyage. Seems like you guys are trying to find the optimal structure to provide "no strings attached" travel information. I most definitely support that, and wish Wikivoyage lots of success. As you may have noticed, at Travature we are trying to build a more all encompassing travel engine, so our focus is a little different than just wikiwiki. But even still, at the end of the day, I think we share a similar mentality of focusing on the traveler, not the bottom line.
- One thing I always find exciting, is discussing mutually beneficial opportunities with groups who share a similar mentality. We are always open to any suggestions if anyone from the WV community has any ideas (maybe something to post on WV/general/ -???).
- A real initial thought on my end is that maybe in the future something to consider is some sort of cross promotion. I personally feel that the more travelers can get steered away from companies that are just trying to make sales and profits, and can get plugged into travel communities built on the right intentions, the better!
- All the best,
- -Jeremy
- Travature
- Hi Jeremy, sorry for the bounced mail. I never have heared about this problem before and, in fact, the mail has been recieved by Wikivoyage's mail server and been forwarded to all three members of the board. It's just that I was too buisy to reply imediately.
- First of all, thanks for your interest in WV. It seems that we both, Travature and WV, had made a similar experience when asking IB for database dumps. You have been the luckier one since, at least, you have got a relpy at all. Except a confirmation, my request from June 2006 has been comletetly ignored, even after several reminders. At the end, we had to fetch all needed XML dumps and images one after the other by a script. Probably, this is the only way to get contence out of the so called "free" travel guide. I'm still wondering why some of the WT contributors behave in such an aggressive way towards other really free guides as we have seen in http://wikitravel.org/en/Wikitravel_talk:Database_dump and even other discussions.
- I'm excited to see Travature comming up with many new and very interesting features. For me, it is encouraging to see that free accessabilty to dumps is not only a typicaly German concern, as some WT admins still try to state. Your flight search and restaurant rating system looks promissing.
- I understand that the wiki feature is only one part of your overall concept. Also, you avoid to use a wiki markup language what is maybe more intuitive for newbies. At the other hand, your dumps in HTML format make data exchanges with Mediawiki systems significantly harder.
- Cross promotion between Travature and Wikivoyage could help both projects. I could imagine to activate inter wiki links to Travature that point on the appropriate Travature guide. In return, Travature might be interested in linking to existing (German) guides on WV.

[edit] Amy et al.
when Amy et altr go, we are only 2 for Spanish-version, nevertheless I post a person that unterschrift LP, in WP, commenting on the projekt. Tschuess --Penarc 23:23, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- Great, new interested people are always welcome. But it wouldn't make sense to start an es: version with only two real contributors and 3 others that don't have time. I don't know anything about Zac, but Amylin and Fabzgy are no native Spanish speakers. Even if they had more time, their help would be limited. Amylin, Zac and Fabzgy are quite involved in the BeWelcome project. At the time they have signed up here, we were thinking about a way to cooperate. Unfortunately, we had (and still have) too less contributors for other versions than German. This was the main problem for them and so they tried to push other language versions. -- Hansm 08:08, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
